Can I use LinkedIn as a social sharing option?
In order to use LinkedIn as a social sharing option, your Share URL cannot contain a canonical tag. Here's how to confirm this:
- Visit the LinkedIn Post Inspector at https://www.linkedin.com/post-inspector
- Enter your Share URL and click the Inspect button (your Share URL can be found in the GrowSurf Campaign Editor > 5. Installation step)
- Scroll down to the URL information section.
- If you do not see a Canonical URL field, then you CAN use LinkedIn as a social sharing option
- If you see a Canonical URL field, then you CANNOT use LinkedIn as a social sharing option (reference the screenshot below)
LinkedIn will replace the URL that your participants share [when clicking the LinkedIn share button] with the Canonical URL, if there is one. This means that any URL parameters will be stripped, and referral tracking will not work properly.
How to resolve the issue
In order to make LinkedIn work as a sharing option, you will need to access the source code of the webpage and remove the <link rel="canonical"> tag
from the HTML.
