What is a unique impression and what is an impression?

Every time a participant's referral link (e.g., https://yourwebsite.com?grsf=d218xJ) is accessed, a unique impression is registered.

Unique impressions are registered only when the referral cookie is generated for the first time, which takes place when someone first clicks on a participant's referral link.

Any subsequent visits to your website on pages that have the GrowSurf Universal Code will increase the impression count but not the unique impression count.

It is possible for a participant to have a significantly higher number of impressions than unique impressions. Although the behavior of your participants' referred visitors may differ, some explanations for considerably more impressions than unique impressions may include the following:

  • Referred visitors navigate through multiple web pages after clicking the initial referral link
  • When the initial referral link was visited, the URL will autocomplete as the first option for future visits

Important notes

A referral and an impression are distinct from each other. A referral is triggered when a participant performs a specific qualifying action, such as when their first payment happens. Meanwhile, an impression is registered each time someone visits a participant's referral link.

The referral cookie of the website visitor is erased once they become a GrowSurf participant, and no more impressions will be recorded thereafter.
